Symptoms of failing glow plugs include engine misfires, hard starts or no start, black or white smoke, and a rough idle or hesitation. For earlier models, the 6.0 glow plugs are longer, making them incompatible with later engines due to a different piston design. Using incorrect glow plugs can result in engine damage.
