A truck’s wastegate actuator is a relatively simple piece of equipment but serves a vital purpose. Turbochargers are meant to handle a lot of pressure, but when it all gets a little too much the turbocharger wastegate actuator will do its job and release some of the pressurized gas. Without a turbo wastegate actuator, your turbo could overspeed and wear out a lot faster than it would otherwise. +Read more
An unrestrained turbocharger could also lead to other parts of the engine wearing out far faster than they otherwise would. The wastegate actuator in a 7.3 Powerstroke turbocharger isn’t a complex piece of equipment and is a lot cheaper to replace than the turbine it protects.
The 7.3 wastegate actuator constantly handles very hot, high-pressure gasses. As a result, your 7.3 Powerstroke wastegate actuator will eventually need replacing. The wastegate actuator solenoid controls the wastegate itself. When prompted by the engine’s control unit the solenoid will use the 7.3 Powerstroke wastegate vacuum lines to open the wastegate and regulate the pressure within the turbocharger.
These parts are all vital and if any of them fail your engine or turbocharger may end up damaged. So remember to have your turbocharger inspected at regular intervals and replace any worn parts.
