With a long inline-six engine block, the 24V Cummins exhaust manifold is prone to cracking. As the cast-iron block routinely expands when heated and contracts during cooling, it puts strain on the cast-iron manifold. Once the manifold has cracked, exhaust pressure cannot build up, resulting in power loss, a poor idle, and misfires. Once this happens, the exhaust manifold needs to be replaced before there is further damage.
