Your engine’s exhaust system is one of its most vital parts. You may think of it as a long tube that transports exhaust gases from the engine to the vehicle’s tailpipe, but it actually contains several important components. A well-maintained LBZ exhaust will serve multiple functions. It supplies gases to power the vehicle’s turbocharger via the LBZ Duramax downpipe and LBZ up pipe. The LBZ Duramax exhaust also ensures the engine can expel the gases that are left over following combustion. +Read more
A diesel engine compresses a mixture of diesel fuel and air inside its cylinders. The violent compression creates heat and causes the air-fuel mixture to ignite. The resulting explosion results in gases that are expelled through the LBZ exhaust manifold. From there, it hits the Duramax up pipe, and is used to spin the turbine which powers the turbocharger’s compressor.
On the other side of the turbocharger is the LBZ downpipe, which brings the gases to the exhaust pipe. A loss of power or issues with the turbocharger could be down to a leak in the up or downpipe. Another important exhaust component is the LBZ exhaust brake, which is essentially a valve in the system. The exhaust brake can be used to create back pressure, which in turn slows the engine.
