Even though the LB7 turbo is generally sound, issues can arise as time goes on. While this generation of the Duramax turbo should have 20 psi of maximum boost, a lack of boost can be the symptom of many problems. For example, oil can coke inside the turbo and cause premature failure, and the compressor wheel can stop functioning, requiring a full rebuild of the turbo. The LB7 may also need to be replaced or upgraded to help maintain the correct air to fuel ratio for the engine.
