It is common for the LB7 head gasket to fail and cause overheating in higher mileage engines. Due to its layered steel design, the head gasket can develop gaps during compression strokes, resulting in either internal or external leaks. When replacing the head gasket, it is also recommended to replace the head studs. An aftermarket LB7 head stud kit can provide a more even and stronger clamp load, which will greatly help the layered steel head gasket.
